All cotton fabrics used in Pookey Pockets nappies have been pre-washed and tumble-dried for maximum shrinkage. Hemp and bamboo fabrics have been prewashed by a commercial laundry, but hemp will take at least another 5+ washes to break in for maximum absorbency. Bamboo should reach full absorbency within 2-3 washes. Microfleece and polar fleece have not been pre-washed, and we recommend washing before use to remove any manufacturing residue.

Washing Instructions

There is no need for soaking in chemical solutions - we recommend dry pailing your nappies.

Do not use fabric softener - it reduces the absorbency of nappies and puts a coating on fleece which prevents the wee from passing through the liner to the pocket stuffing.
Do not use bleach - line drying in the sun will help remove any stains from your nappies.

If your nappies are going to be stored for more than 48hrs before washing, you may like to rinse them before storing in the dry pail. In some extreme cases, prolonged contact with urine can lead to hemp deterioration.

Pookey Pockets can be put through the clothes dryer (warm/cool setting recommended) but frequent use will reduce the lifespan of your nappies.

Washing fleece pockets/covers with towelling nappies can result in the fleece gathering fluff from the towelling. Using a wash bag for fleece items can help prevent this if you want to wash all your nappy items in the same load.
